Elon Musk Accuses Threads of Copying His Twitter Move

Meta’s Threads app, which debuted to great anticipation, has already amassed over 100 million users within a week of its launch. Positioned as a direct competitor to Twitter, Threads offers several similar features. Users have flocked to Threads in search of an alternative to Twitter, particularly due to the platform’s recent restrictions, such as rate limiting, which limits users’ access to a certain number of tweets.

Elon Musk and Twitter faced criticism for imposing these restrictions, with some speculating that it was a move to get users to buy Twitter Blue. Ironically, however, it appears that Threads has now adopted a similar approach to combating spam in its app. This move has led Musk to hit out at Threads, suggesting that they are copying Twitter.

“Spam attacks have increased, so we need to tighten things like speed limits, which means unintentionally limiting active people (false positives). If you run into these protections, let us know,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said.

A user posted a screenshot of this and in response Elon Musk said “lmaoo” and called it a replica.

In an earlier response, Musk even called limiting Threads’ speed a “depressing” move.

This is ironic, no doubt, as users flocked to Threads to avoid Twitter’s tricks, including rate throttling. However, the Threads app, which gained a lot of traction and reached 100 million users in less than a week, is now facing the same problem.

Adam Mosseri has stated that users should report if their interest levels are often capped, but this has certainly become a topic of discussion among Twitter and Threads users, with many defending their platform of choice and even suggesting that Musk and Zuckerberg should definitely have a cage match.
